Description

Here we have a superbly designed three-piece clock set, comprised of a central mantel clock and a pair of flanking candelabra, all crafted from ormolu.

The mantel clock is supported on eight feet. It features a centrally placed circular dial inscribed with Roman numeral hour indices and Arabic numeral minute indices. The dial is set within an ornate gilt bronze case, flanked on either side by a reclining cherub wearing laurel leaf crowns. While one holds a spear, the other clutches a collection of foliage. The base is architecturally formed and decorated with ornate acanthus leaf detailing and elaborate scrolling. The dial is also surmounted with a vase-shaped finial.

The pair of five-light candelabra are supported on four feet and are similarly decorated. They both feature a kneeling cherub holding the stem of the candelabrum, with each head formed as a floral bouquet from which springs five foliate branches.

The dial is signed 'Blain / A Paris'.
