The gilt metal lantern is of ovoid form and features six, large, curved panels of oval-shaped glass around the central light fitting. Above and below the large glass panels are further bands of bulbous, cabochon glass settings, which glow and augment the light within. The gilt metal frame is extensively decorated with foliate motifs, flowers and scrolling designs, and the bottom of the lantern is finished with an ornate scrolling finial.
The lantern is suspended from a gilt ceiling fitting by three supports which are cast in blackened metal to resemble tied ropes, terminating in gilt metal flame finials.
