Description

This magnificent objet d’art incorporates a variety of exceptional materials to produce a display of a bird of paradise perched atop a tree branch in a rocky outcrop.

The composition is raised on a square gold base, upon which a fine piece of quartz serves as the landscape. From the outcrop of quartz springs a chased gold branch, naturalistically rendered with fine detailing. The branch supports chrysoprase leaves and flowers composed of diamonds and sapphires.

The bird of paradise is perched on the branch, his body wrought from beautifully chased and finished gold—each feather separately rendered. The gold bird is studded with diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, rubies, and turquoise, his extraordinary plumage composed of equally extraordinary precious stones.

The piece is contained by a fitted case.
