Gold, silver, and amythest flower study by Tolliday for Garrard
By Garrard & Co. (English, founded 1735) | Tolliday, William (English, b. 1915)
£6,500
This magnificent flower study by the Asprey & Garrard jeweller William Tolliday is rendered from the finest of materials, including gold, silver, amethyst, and pearl.
This superb flower study is by the accomplished jeweller William Tolliday, who spent his entire career at the London firm Garrard and Co. (formerly Asprey & Garrard until 2002), which served as England’s crown jeweller until 2007.
The flower study is crafted from gold, silver, pearls, amethyst, and chrysocolla. Holly sprays, laden with gold and silver leaves and hardstone berries, spring from a craggy chrysocolla outcrop, which also supports amethyst pillars, gold grasses and pinecones, and flowers rendered from silver with gold stamina.
The study is mounted upon a brown painted canvas backing, contained by a plush red velvet mount, and set within a giltwood frame. The work is signed lower right ‘William Tolliday’ and was most probably retailed by Asprey and Garrard.
