The textile was created in the early 19th Century to serve as a skirt or dress band. The satin fabric is a vibrant red colour and is covered with beautiful chain-stitched embroidery designs. Yellow, turquoise and black silk thread has been carefully stitched into the fabric to create a variety of flower and bird motifs. The body of the fabric is decorated with alternating rows of embroidered peacocks and flower sprays. Below, there is a border which is chain-stitched with stylised flowers, fan motifs, parrots and rosettes.
