Large diamond, silver and silver-gilt model of a lion by Asprey

This stunning figure of a lion was crafted by Asprey in around 1980. Founded in 1781 in England, Asprey is a very famous firm of jewellers, goldsmiths and silversmiths. Since its foundation it has produced luxury goods for an elite clientele and in 1862 received a Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria.

The majestic animal is fully made from silver. Exceptionally high-quality sculpting reveals numerous anatomical features of the animal such as its claws, muscles or facial expressions. Silver gilt is cleverly used to highlight the lion’s hair, including the voluminous mane surrounding his head. The teeth and whiskers too have been rendered in silver gilt differentiating them from the shining silver. The lion’s eyes are superbly set with two shimmering diamonds adding another luxurious feature to the model.

The piece comes with a fitted presentation case. Luxuriously lined with red velvet, the lion can be mounted on the plush base. The underside of the cover features the Royal Warrant mark presented to Asprey, showcasing its importance within the world of decorative arts and jewellery.
