This impressive sculpture of a falcon, crafted from exquisite examples of granite and quartz, was carved for the esteemed Swiss watchmaker Vacheron Constantin.
This superb bird model was crafted by Erwin Klein for Vacheron Constantin, the famed Swiss luxury watch and clock manufacturer. The sculpture depicts a falcon perched atop a rocky crag. The falcon is carved from one piece of wonderfully marbled, veined, and fossilised granite, with his beak crafted from three differently coloured pieces of hardstone and his eyes from bicoloured glass. The falcon’s large talons are wrought from silver, their piercing forms latched onto the superb specimen of quartz below. The model is a wonderful piece of sculptural carving and a fine demonstration of the natural beauty of the stones from which it is crafted.
The talons are hallmarked 925, designating sterling silver, ‘EK’, for Erwin Klein, and feature a third four-leaf clover type mark. A badge attached to the bird reads 'K. Klein / Vacheron Constantin'.
