Description

This large and impressive chandelier is crafted from porcelain in the decadent Rococo style. The chandelier is by Meissen, one of Europe’s most celebrated producers of luxury porcelain.

The chandelier features thirty-six lights arranged over two tiers. The central baluster shaped column of the chandelier is painted in pastel tones, parcel gilt, and pierced on occasion. Moreover, the column is mounted with models of female figures playing musical instruments and sprays of encrusted porcelain flowers. The lower section of the column supports a series of scrolled porcelain light branches, each similarly decorated, draped with bunches of encrusted porcelain flowers, and home to perching yellow canaries and love birds. The upper tier is similarly formed and adorned, issuing a further series of light branches.

The porcelain is marked to the underside of one figure.
