Large Orientalist porcelain plaque in the style of KPM
Style of KPM, Konigliche Porzellan-Manufaktur (German, founded 1763)
£15,000
The porcelain plaque is painted with an Orientalist market scene, portraying a seller in a souk surrounded by wares, all set within a heat-soaked urban environment.
This fine and large porcelain plaque depicts a Middle Eastern or North African market scene. Two men, one bearing a sword and the other a begging bowl, stand in front of a souk, with a seller surrounded by distinctly Islamic wares, such as Moorish side tables and brass braziers. The manner of execution is fine, with delicate brushstrokes employed. The colour palette hints at the heat of the desert beyond, with burnt umbers and yellow tones predominating.
The plaque is signed lower right, is contained within an ornate giltwood frame, and is spuriously stamped to the reverse ‘KPM'.
