Description

This large and impressive sculpture, standing tall at 145cm in height, is modelled as a female figure in typical Arabic dress, adorned with fine jewellery. The figure is shown standing behind a table, decorated in the Moorish style, with her hands placed on either side of the table. The decoration is portrayed using varying tones of patinated spelter, with her jewellery painted and partially gilt to add a hint of colour. The sculpture as a whole is standing on a red velvet lined plinth.

This beautiful sculpture is unusually large for an Orientalist figural sculpture. It was made by the French Orientalist sculptor, Louis Hottot, and is typical of the artist's style. The work is signed to the drapery of the dress 'L. Hottot'.
