Large, very fine French Rococo revival style carved giltwood sofa

Crafted in late nineteenth century France, this magnificent piece is a large Rococo revival giltwood sofa, with profusely and ornately worked decoration. Set with rich blue upholstery, complementing the rich gilt embellishments, it is an exceptional antique item.

At approximately two metres in width, it is richly and lavishly carved with scrolling acanthus foliage. There are plenty of ribbon-tied fruiting pieces, along with a rich array of swags, birds, masks, pendants, so called 'Green-man' masks. A large central cartouche crests the work in the centre
