Description

This fine mantel clock is crafted from ormolu and malachite, with the malachite veneer being a later addition. The clock features a stepped malachite base raised on a shaped ormolu apron and joined with an acanthus leaf moulded ormolu frieze. The base supports a malachite plinth-form clock case flanked by ormolu griffons and inset with a silvered dial. A large, naturalistically rendered sculptural figure of a Greek philosopher leans on the clock case, his right hand leafing through the pages of an open book.
