This scene is after the oil painting by Leopold Carl Müller (Austrian, 1834-1892) painted in 1878 (canvas height 136cm, width 216cm), which is in the collection of the Belvedere Palace, Vienna, Austria. Muller was a leading example in the second half of the 19th Century of the Austrian painters favouring Orientalist scenes. He had a fascination with Egyptian day to day life, which is seen through this painting in Weiner's work, who in turn, greatly admired both Egyptian life as well as Muller's works.
