Moroccan silver-plate bowl and cover adorned with arabesques
£950
This fine silver-plate bowl, produced in the Moroccan city of Fez, is profusely adorned with a wonderfully complex arrangement of Islamic style geometrical forms.
This ornate bowl is crafted from silver-plate, and was produced in Fez in Morocco, as indicated by the stamp underneath its foot: SADF, or La Société des Artisans Dinandiers de Fès.
The bowl features a tiered circular foot rising to a waisted socle, from which springs the integral body. The broad rim of the bowl is topped with a domed cover, which is set to the centre with a pierced gilt metal mount and is surmounted by an abstracted pomegranate finial. The bowl is mounted with twin looped handles, and the surfaces of the bowl and the cover are intricately moulded with Islamic style arabesques and other motifs.
