Description

This fine KPM porcelain plaque is painted by Julius Greiner, a nineteenth-century German painter celebrated for his ability and his style. The rectangular plaque depicts a mother holding two children. She is seated on a broad chair with a turned wooden frame and wears a bright pink dress. The setting is indistinct: a grey background and brown floor, with an animal-skin rug to the lower right. The colour palette is bright and vibrant in contrast, a foil to the dark background, while the painterly manner is precise and accomplished.

The plaque is set within a giltwood frame and is signed lower left ‘Jul Greiner’ and impressed with KPM marks to the reverse.
