Description

This fine purple kaftan is embroidered with metal threads along its striped exteriors. it features curved, snaking metal thread embroidery and is not buttoned all the way down, and dates to the Ottoman period in Turkey during the 19th century.

In the early 19th Century, caftans were worn over a robe. They were open in form, sometimes had sleeves and usually did not have a collar. Other similar examples can be found in the Topkapi Palace Museum, Istanbul. Both an excellent collectible, and a fine piece of antique collection, this unique piece is a remarkable item.
