Description

These fine porcelain wares are a pair of lamps, adapted from vases, mounted with twin lighting installments and fitted with a pair of matching shades. Classical in shape, they are painted with a near-symmetrical Rococo floral designs, and are painted with gilt to the handles and to the base.

The painting is executed in light, expressive, and fluid brush strokes: simple yet effusively applied, in complementary tones of greens, blues, pinks and lilacs. Just below the ribbed handles on each side are a pair of grotesque bearded Classical masks, and a celadon glaze is applied to the neck and lower body of each piece.

Clear, refined, and with a wonderful charm, they are simple yet beautiful examples of nineteenth century antique craft and fine additions to a warm, classic interior space. (The height is 36.5cm, excluding lamp fittings.)
