This sumptuous pair of silver vases was expertly crafted in the late 19th century. Their design is inspired by the 18th century Rococo style which witnessed a great revival in the late 19th century.
Each vase is superbly executed using a variety of techniques. Their bodies have been wonderfully cast in a flowing, bulbous form that tapers towards the base and terminates with a dainty pinecone finial. Throughout, the vases are decorated with chased decoration, mostly of a nature-inspired theme. Branches of flowers are draped down the pieces while around the neck of each one are ribbon-tied garlands. Parts of the flowers have been embossed adding to the eye-catching three-dimensional look of the antiques. The pared-down necks are surmounted by richly embossed bowls. In addition to the floral designs, the artists also included C and S scroll motifs as well as depictions of musical instruments such as a harp.
Three slender, long legs support the vases, each one topped by a female mask.
Together the pieces weigh approximately 1,308 grammes.
