Description

This magnificent pair of vases is by the celebrated French manufacturer Baccarat. The vases are of traditional form, each with a bulbous body above a spreading circular foot, with a flared flute-form neck above. The vases are crafted from ruby-red opaline glass, which has been parcel gilt and overlaid in white. The body of each vase features white overlay painted with extremely delicate portrayals of birds perched in trees amidst floral sprays. Below each band of painted decoration, the overlay is pierced and parcel gilt in a gothic manner to reveal the ruby red glass beneath. The top of the body of each is similarly adorned with a frieze of pierced trefoils and fleur-de-lis, while the neck features further gothic window style decorations.
