This delightful pair of glass bottles were made in France during the 19th century, and portray all of the elegance that one associates with the French Belle Epoque.Â
Crafted in white opaline glass, the petite bottles take a bulbous undulating form, requiring a great deal of skill from the maker to execute. Each bottle has been hand decorated with parcel gilt and blue detailing to the main white bodies with depictions of scrolling vines and grapes, and concentric rings in blue and gold to the feet, shoulders and necks. The bottles are topped by stoppers which have been similarly decorated by hand with vines and grapes to the tops, and further parcel gilt detailing lower down.Â
The bottles are most likely to have been made to store perfume, and could still be used for this purpose. Regardless of use, they are wonderful works of art in themselves and a joy to behold and simply admire. Â
