Depicting courtly scenes across their richly and densely decorated bodies, these superb vases, in the Canton style, and in the 'famille rose' category of works, were made in Qing Dynasty China in the late 19th Century.Â
Vases of this type are distinguished into different families in the Western world. Famille jaune, verte, noire, and rose, all refer to the dominant colour of the overglaze enamel used on porcelain vases such as these. Here, the courtly scene, beautifully and brightly painted with a vast array of rich pigments, is nevertheless dominated by the pink overglaze, hence their classification.
Beautiful decorative objects skilfully crafted and sumptuously painted, they are excellent examples of artistic production in the Qing period.
