Description

These unusual plaques are crafted from enamelled porcelain. The plaques depict male and female figures dressed in brightly coloured costumes (rendered in lustrous enamels) against obscure landscapes with castles and trees below ominous black skies. While the figures’ clothing is bright and vibrant in colouration, their faces and hands are rendered in grisaille, producing an unusual contrast. The style of the figures is distinctly Renaissance, particularly in their clothing and the Italianate manner of the landscape backgrounds.

Each plaque, contained within an ormolu frame, is signed lower right 'Lamy', and the plaques feature stickers to reverse for the fine art retailer 'A. MAYRHOFER & CO., 659 Hay St., Perth W.A.'
