Pair of Russian porcelain candlesticks by Popov Manufactory
By Popov Manufactory (Russian, 1811-1875)
£7,500
The richness of the colouring and gilding on this pair of candlesticks is testament to the fine tradition of Russian porcelain making in the 19th Century.
The porcelain candlesticks are identical in design, and set on pentagonal bases with rocaille, or shell-shaped feet. There are oval-shaped panels of floral still-life depictions on white ground, and above the candlestick columns are decorated with alternate sections of pink and blue ground porcelain. At the top there are pink drip pans with shaped edges, below ovoid-form lights. There are gilded highlights throughout the body of the candlesticks. The base of the candlesticks feature the marks for the Popov Manufactory, active in Russia in the 19th Century.
