Pair of Victorian parcel gilt ebonised wood pedestals
£4,500
This pair of Victorian ebonised giltwood pedestals is designed in a refined manner, each pedestal imitating the form and structure of a classical column.
Each pedestal in this pair is formed from ebonised wood about the scheme of a classical column. The torus of each column—designed in the manner of a parcel gilt ebonised wood laurel wreath—stands on a square base. From this torus rises the shaft of the column, which is draped with giltwood swags and ribbons. The capital of each column is bipartite: the lower tier is ornamented with a wave-form motif, accented with gilding, which encompasses the cylindrical pedestal. The upper tier is concave in profile and fluted, the concavity of the flutes being gilt. The capital is surmounted by a flat top, rendering each piece in the pair a functional pedestal.
