Pair of ormolu and bisque porcelain candelabra by Nast

The candelabra take the form of ancient Egyptian female figures, which have been crafted from parcel gilt bisque porcelain. The women wear ancient Egyptian style dresses, and they fold their arms in front of them. The figures stand on cylindrical bisque bases, which are parcel gilt and decorated with beading and stylised foliage.

Above, the five scrolling ormolu branches of the candelabra spring from ormolu fruit baskets, perched on the women’s heads. The five lights are intricately decorated with leaves and fruits, and terminate in drip-pans, leafy capitals and simple sconces. Directly above the fruit basket is a tall flaming torch, with a snake coiled around it.
