This superb pair of vitrine pedestals exemplify the best of the Neoclassical style. Each pedestal is crafted from malachite and ormolu and features a tapering rectangular body, narrowing from top to bottom. The top of each features a flat plateau, below of which is a continuous, encompassing ormolu rinceaux frieze. The body of each pedestal functions as a vitrine: the glass sides, each set within an ormolu frame and adorned with ormolu foliate and neoclassical motifs, allow in-the-round viewing of contained items. Each vitrine opens to reveal two glass shelves. The bottom of each features an ormolu frieze moulded with Vitruvian scrolls, and each is raised on four ormolu paw feet.
