This superb set of bedside cabinets, crafted from hardwood adorned with marquetry and mounted with ormolu, was retailed by the prestigious furnishers Au Gros Chêne.

Description

The cabinets in this pair feature geometrically veneered tops with chamfered corners below protective glass covers. Below the top of each is a shallow frieze drawer and a large, lined cabinet. The surfaces of the cabinet, including the face of the drawer and cupboard door, are veneered with geometrical marquetry designs. Each cabinet is set with fine ormolu mounts, including foliate mounts to the corners below the top and acanthus leave brackets to the shoulders of the cabriole legs. Each leg terminates in an ormolu cabriole sabot.

The cabinets are affixed with plaques indicating they were retailed by the celebrated Parisian furnishers Au Gros Chêne.
