Description

This pair of patinated bronze dogs is by Jules Moigniez, one of the most celebrated and collected sculptors of animals (or animalier) active during the nineteenth century. Each sculpture portrays a hunting dog—some form of spaniel or retriever—standing in an animated, taut stance. Moignez has deftly rendered the form and texture of the dogs’ bodies, using subtle patination to accent particular features. The dogs stand atop integral naturalistic oval bases.

Each bronze is signed 'J. Moignez'.
