This pair of silvered bronze six-light candelabra is by Christofle, one of the leading producers of silver goods active in France during the 19th Century.
The silvered bronze throughout is richly detailed, designed with an amalgam of Rococo playfulness and Neoclassical grandeur in mind. Each candelabrum is raised on a tripod foot, each of the three legs gracefully merging to form the central column. The central column culminates in an ornate foliate finial and serves as the support for the six light branches, each of which is ornately scrolled and detailed with foliate forms. The bronze has been exceptionally finely cast, the slightest of details fully rendered with motifs of leaves, berries, and fruit, all hallmarks of the Rococo Revival style.
The bronze is signed ‘Christofle’ and stamped with various other marks, including inventory numbers.
