This fine wool rug was expertly woven in early 20th century Kashan, Iran. Its intricate design displays the very impressive skills of Iranian carpet weavers. Â
The central panel is adorned with a selection of nature-inspired designs. Three vases occupy the centre of the rug, each one filled with a rich polychrome bouquet. Above the two larger side floral bouquets is a pair of smaller, similarly coloured compositions, while below is a pair of smaller ones. The background is entirely filled with repetitive and symmetrical designs of flowers, foliage and birds. The top and bottom parts of the panel include very fine geometric patterns. Â
Framing the central panel are several borders of various sizes. The smaller borders are coloured in deep shades of blue and are filled with delicate repetitive designs, while the large border is bolder. There the polychrome nature-inspired designs are placed on a maroon background. Â
This wonderful Kashan rug can be used as a floor or wall covering and would bring a touch of Persian history to one’s interior. Â
