The seamless rippled effect on wood displays the intricacies of surface finishing achieved by Vaughan and celebrates contemporary manufacturing possibilities.
This attention-grabbing yet refined contemporary desk was designed and made by the British designer Tom Vaughan (b. 1976).
The plane of the desk is beautifully curved and finished with a rippled effect, imitating the surface of water. The black walnut elegantly curves and drops to the ground on both ends of the desk, creating a space under the furniture piece. This allows the user to freely move around, ensuring complete comfort of use.
A remarkable feature of the desk is the rippled detailing wonderfully swimming on the underside of the piece. The water ripples delicately carved in the black walnut majestically appear and disappear from one’s view, the look of the desk altering depending on what angle it is viewed from.
The seamless design showcases contemporary design at its best and honours the complex manufacturing technique employed to craft this piece. Vaughan’s work of art would wonderfully fit into both contemporary and traditional interiors.
