Each allegorical porcelain figure in this superb set represents one of the four seasons and has been crafted by skilled artists at the German Sitzendorf Porcelain Manufactory.
Summer is represented as a female resting on a sheaf of wheat with a rake in one hand and a sickle in the other. Parts of her clothing are painted with floral designs and include gilded detailing. Her head is covered with a hat, its colours matching the rest of the outfit.
Spring is dressed in similar clothing, ornately adorned with floral motifs. She is holding a single yellow rose in one hand while in the other is a basket full of polychrome flowers. Further plants and flowers decorate the base on which the figure sits.
Winter is depicted as a lady dressed in a fur-lined maroon coat, her head covered with a matching hat. Part of her bright blue dress is peaking from under the thick winter coat. A small fire is next to her keeping her hands warm.
Autumn is the only season represented by a male who is dressed in clothes rendered in shades of yellow, purple, and blue with gilded details. His hand is raised holding a bunch of purple grapes, while next to him is a basket full of them.
All four bases are elegantly gilded complementing the charming compostions above. On the underside of each figure is the blue Sitzendorf mark.
Depicting important symbols from art history, this set of superb figures would be a magnificent addition to one’s collection of porcelain.
