£3,500
This wonderful set of three Neoclassical style porcelain tazze is decorated with scenes drawn from the mythology of classical antiquity, with panels illustrating Helen of Troy and a bacchanalia.
This fine set of three porcelain tazze (a tazza being a bowl or plate raised on a footed stem) is by the celebrated Royal Vienna Porcelain Manufactory. The set is comprised of one taller and two shorter tazze, all decorated in a conforming manner: the white porcelain ground of each is profusely parcel gilt and finished with cobalt blue accents. The top surface of each tazza features an illustrated central roundel encompassed by a wide band of parcel gilt arabesques and rinceaux. The pictorial roundels of each are signed ‘A. Hamann’, while the underside of each is marked for Royal Vienna and inscribed with the title of the relevant illustration: one depicts ‘Helena’, or Helen of Troy; another depicts a bacchanalia; and the third portrays Venus visiting Helen of Troy and Paris.
