This superb set of silver teaspoons was produced in Norway in 1911 by the Oslo firm J. Tostrup and subsequently retailed by the prestigious Parisian retailer Moutot.
This set of twelve silver teaspoons is by the Norwegian silversmith firm J. Tostrup. The firm was founded by Jacob Tostrup in Oslo in 1838, and was continued by his son, then his grandson-in-law, into the 20th century. The present set, produced in 1911, was produced during the tenure of the founder’s grandson-in-law, Torolf Prytz.
Each teaspoon features ornate engraved decoration and a coat of arms. Each of the twelve is marked to the stem with its silver purity, maker’s name, and the date: ‘S.830. J. Tostrup. 1911’.
The set is contained within a fitted tooled leather case with a velvet lined interior. The case is gilt stamped for its Parisian retailer, Moutot.
