Two Russian silver gilt and cloisonné enamel eggs on stands
£6,500
The polychrome cloisonné enamelled design of these Russian Easter eggs extends onto the stands on which they are mounted making them desirable home décor pieces.
Crafted in 20th century Russian, these two superb decorative eggs are symbolic of the rebirth of men. Richly decorated eggs, most notably those crafted by the renowned Faberge firm were also symbols of status and wealth.
Both eggs are of a very similar design. Two thick bands of floral designs are interspersed in between bands of bright white beads. Further geometric and repetitive patterns adorn the top and bottom of each egg as well as both stands. The silver gilt base is left uncovered creating a wonderful background for the more vivid cloisonné enamel motifs. The top of each egg lifts off to reveal a hollow interior.
Inside the pieces are marked ‘84’ zolotnik mark indicating the purity of silver alongside other marks in Cyrillic.
Of an elegant design and celebrating the centuries old tradition of Easter eggs, the pieces are a superb addition to one’s interior design scheme.
