This superb and extensive silverplate and cut glass table service is by Elkington, one of the leading silversmiths working in England during the Victorian period.
This truly exceptional table service is by the English silversmith Elkington. Elkington pioneered the process of silver-plating metal in the early 19th Century, becoming renowned in their own day—and since—for the quality of their craftsmanship. The present service is crafted from silver plate and finely cut glass, is decorated profusely with floral motifs and cherubs, and is contained by a large fitted wooden chest.
The set is comprised of a large oval shaped stand (with a spare bowl), two medium oval stands, six small circular stands (with a spare bowl), six wine coasters with wooden bases, and thirty-six ice cream spoons.
The quality of the craftsmanship throughout is exceptional. Each piece is marked to its base, while the fitted chest is stamped ‘Elkington and Co Silversmiths / 22 Regent St. London’.
