A charming wren sits atop a rocky stone looking down, its tail high up. Such imagery was embodied in this stunning bird model crafted by 20th century makers.
The bird is expertly carved from zebra stone (also known as zebra jasper or zebra rock). The naturally formed patterns of the stone are perfectly placed to imitate the various colours and patterns one would expect to find on a wren. The front parts of the bird are maroon coloured, with delicate horizontal lines in a darker tone. As one looks towards the rare of the bird, the colours transition into dark brown and maroon speckles on a beige canvas. On top of the stones naturally occurring patterns are skilfully carved details to imitate a living being, such as its feathers. Zebra stone carries several spiritual meanings, for example, it is said to encourage one to stop overthinking and enjoy living in the moment.
The wren’s eye is executed in vibrant yellow with a black dot making it pop against the more muted colours of the bird’s body. Its face terminated with a slender black beak.
The sharp-looking claws and delicate legs have been cast from silver. A silver gilt detailing is added where the legs and body join.
A stepped, seashell-shaped fossilised stone acts as the base on which the zebra stone bird is standing. The beige-coloured stone wonderfully plays together with the wren’s colouring.
The delicate features executed out of hard materials show the exceptional abilities of the makers and make this bird model an exceptionally desirable addition to one’s collection.
