This deftly wrought bronze lamp demonstrates the style and the quality of early twentieth century Viennese production. The lamp is crafted from cold-painted bronze, and the subject matter is distinctly Orientalist. A man sites atop an integral prayer rug form base, his legs crossed, with a cup in his left hand and a statue in his right. He sits beneath a minaret-form lamp, which is suspended from a mock wooden structure. The quality of the casting throughout is superb, and the vibrancy and delicacy of the cold painting is excellent.
The underside of the base is marked ‘BK’ and stamped ‘Austria’.
