This elegant chandelier includes ormolu and cut-glass detailing and was crafted in France in the late 19th century. Its design is opulent yet refined, both features synonymous with the Belle Époque style.
From the central stem extends a plethora of decorations. Five levels of palm tree leaves hang from the middle, each one with numerous cut glass hanging droplets. Some branches do not feature leaves but terminate with a more ornate, flower-shaped feature. Below the palm tree leaves is an unusual basket form illuminated once switched on.
Profusely decorated branches occupy the lower part of the chandelier. These are cast in flowing foliate shapes, reminiscent in look to ones popular during the Rococo period. The twelve branches support twelve drip pans and lights.
The shine of the gold ormolu beautifully stands out among the sea of clear glass ornaments.
This magnificent antique would look superb with a chandelier of a very similar design available here.
