This fine armchair is a superb example of Syrian design, with its form and material structure evocative of the art of the Levantine coast. The armchair is wrought from hardwood, with the surfaces throughout profusely adorned with arabesque inlays of ebonised wood, mother-of-pearl, bone, and abalone shell. The large backrest, crafted with a highly ornate crown, is spectacularly pierced and decorated with foliate, arabesque inlays, while the armrests and the aprons, which are below the seat rail and between the legs, are similarly decorated. The seat cushion is upholstered with a fine damascene brocade.
