Description

This superb jardinière is by the celebrated English firm Minton. The jardinière is crafted from majolica, a nineteenth-century English technique that imitates the lustre and style of Renaissance period Italian maiolica.

The jardinière is of ovoid form, modelled with four relief profiles of female figures emblematic of the 'Continents.' Around the relief profiles, each of which is set within a green berried frame, the jardinière is further decorated with moulded foliate motifs and a Greek geometric pattern to the rim, with further patterns to the semi-pierced circular base.

The underside is marked for Minton.
