Of patinated bronze, signed and numbered S459 with the foundry mark of Decaillet, this excellent bust is a fine sculptural work by the Art Nouveau artist François-Raoul Larche.
The bust is modelled with a full-face, and long locks of hair. Larche is known for depicting Christ with an inquisitive, young, and lively air, and with an almost effeminate beauty. This piece is no exception: the rugged locks of hair, at times thickly modelled, contrasts with the exceptionally sensitive modelling of the eyes, lips, and facial structure. The hair and cloak are modelled with a slightly redder, earthier shade of bronze, while the face glows with a more golden shade.
