Description

This fine chandelier is a superb example of the Art Nouveau style, though its styling also recalls aspects of the Aesthetic Movement with its sense of materiality and sensuality.

The chandelier is wrought from gilt metal and majolica—tin-glazed earthenware. The majolica body of the chandelier, which is moulded and glazed with vibrantly coloured floral sprays, issues six light branches, each of gilt metal and wrought in an expressive, scrolling, and foliate manner. The chandelier is suspended by six gilt metal chains, which are in turn supported by a ceiling mount. Suspended from this gilt metal ceiling mount is a gilt metal drop finial which corresponds in shape to the form of the majolica body below.
