Carrier-Belleuse, Albert-Ernest (French, 1824-1887)

Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse was a highly celebrated French sculptor of later 19th Century, known for his pieces in bronze, terracotta and marble. He was also made artistic director of the Sevres porcelain factory in 1876.  Carrier-Belleuse is, however, perhaps best known for having had Auguste Rodin, who is regarded as one of the greatest French sculptors ever to have lived, work as his apprentice between 1864 and 1870.
