Comprising a canape, a pair of open armchairs and a pair of side chairs, this exceptional French giltwood salon suite was made in the 19th century, and is upholstered in red and gold foliate fabric.
In a style that maintains some of the Baroque grandeur of preceding style, this Louis XVI set exemplifies the more refined and disciplined Neoclassical period, exemplified here by the more refined ornamentation, and the Classical column-like appearance of many of the beams and the legs. The five-piece set is truly of palatial-level grandeur and sophistication. The giltwood, the frames, and the actual construction is all French, 19th century, while the upholstery is a high quality, late 20th century, fabric replacement, ready for use and fit for purpose.Â
