Large pair of Dresden porcelain and ebonised wood mirrors

Designed in the Meissen manner, this pair of superb wall brackets features an elaborative decorative scheme. The bountiful frame is adorned in a classically lavish Rococo fashion, featuring lush bouquets of highly detailed flowers, delicate birds, and sweet putti.

Both wall brackets are comprised of a semi-circular ebonised wood shelf atop a curved porcelain support. The support is basket-shaped, with delicate gilt-edge detailing. The support of each bracket is edged with ornate Rococo style decoration, encrusted with floral garlands which culminate below in a sculptural putto that cleverly represents one of the four seasons. The spring putto (right bracket, top) clutches a freshly picked bouquet, whilst the summer putto (left bracket, top) holds a wreath of corn with his left hand and a sickle with his right. The autumn putto (right bracket, base) holds a bunch of grapes, and the winter putto (left bracket, base) wears an ermine-lined cape.  

Each bracket features a bevelled mirrored backboard, with the mirror encompassed by a large porcelain C-scroll surround. The frame continues the natural theme, with painted floral decoration and further flower moulding in vibrant colours. At the outermost points of each frame, two birds of varying breeds are carefully perched upon a branch that curves round from the wooden backing, both peering in towards the centre of the bracket. At the apex of each frame is a putto finial which completes the seasonal set.

The back of one of the brackets has a Dresden mark.

This pair of brackets is an exceptional product of outstanding quality and design. With their supreme decoration and expert craftsmanship, the set would be a wonderful piece for the appropriate interior space.
