Louis XVI style ormolu and glass antique beehive lantern
£4,200
This elegant antique lantern takes inspiration from eighteenth-century French royalty, being closely modelled on similar works commissioned for Versailles.
The lantern is crafted from ormolu and bevelled glass in the octagonal 'Versailles', or beehive, form. The lantern hangs on a chain which is joined to the ormolu beehive frame by a stylized acanthus leaf joint and a semi-spherical top with draped edges. The body of the lantern is formed of an ormolu grid-like octagonal frame, with flowers to the corners, which is inset with bevelled glass. The body terminates below with a pinecone drop finial.
This lantern is after an original eighteenth-century model produced for the Chateau de Versailles.
