This exceptional wardrobe, adorned with ormolu mounts and marquetry inlays, is crafted in the manner of the Aesthetic Movement, a style that pervaded European art and design before and after the turn of the 20th Century. The present piece dates to the early decades of the 20th Century when the style still held sway.
The large and impressive wardrobe features three bays: two flanking narrower cabinets and a broader central cabinet. The central cabinet door is fronted with a large bevelled mirror, while the doors for the side cabinets are set with fine ormolu bas relief panels above and abstracted floral marquetry below. The left-hand cabinet opens to reveal five shelves, while the central and right-hand cabinets feature rails for hanging clothes. The large entablature of the wardrobe is architectural in manner and is adorned with further fine ormolu mounts.
