Description

This ormolu (gilt bronze) mounted Restauration period mantel clock with later malachite veneer is shaped as a rectangular-form pillar with a stepped base. The Roman numerals of the clock dial are cast in ormolu and are individually mounted onto the front of the pillar-form clock body. The dial is partially bordered below by an ormolu swathed swag of flowers and fruit that drapes from each side of the clock, where it is supported by twin ormolu rams' head masks. The base of the clock is mounted with an inset ormolu panel wrought with stylised foliate forms, while the top tier of the clock is encompassed by a mounted ormolu entablature. The clock stands on four ormolu winged paw feet.
