This superb side table contrasts delicate Sèvres style porcelain panels with dramatic ebonised wood, with extensive gilded mounts adding to the luxury of the piece.
The oval top is inset with a shallow quatrefoil porcelain dish, painted with floral and fruit sprays within a woodland setting. The panel is encircled by a gilt foliate cartouche, with further foliate and linear borders set against the pale blue ground of the porcelain. Four small conforming panels corner the central dish, featuring the same gilt-tooled framing. The quality of the porcelain is superb, especially on the miniature scale. A further gilt border surrounds the entire top.
The shaped apron is applied to the edge with an intricate, pierced hanging gallery, with tied swags and foliate forms. The top is supported by four hoof-feet cabriole legs, joined by a central platform inset with an additional floral plaque. The legs are supported by a shaped base inset with a further porcelain plaque of the same design. The legs, base, and middle platform all feature further refined gilt-bronze details, including, rosettes, ribbon designs, and floral imagery.
This highly ornate yet elegant piece would add a touch of refinement to an interior.
